      Shipka Pass (second name - Shipka) - a mountain pass located in Bulgaria. The name was derived from the name of the nearest village, which lies to the south at the foot of the ridge.

      Pass passes through a small road between Gabrovo and Kazanlak, which is a major transport links between North and South Bulgaria. The height of the Shipka Pass is 1185 meter, the highest point is the same name with the mountain pass of Shipka.  

      The first information about the pass Historians refer to the year 335 BC. e. - During this period, the great Alexander the Great crossed with his army through the pass, heading a campaign against Tribalj.
      After the capture by the Ottomans in the XIV century, the Ottomans did land in Bulgaria settlement Gabrovo Shipka and settlements for the protection of the Shipka Pass. In the XVIII century Shipka was the main point of the exchange of goods between the southern and northern parts of the country.

      March 3, 2003, in the 125th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria, President Vladimir Putin visited Shypku together with the President of Bulgaria.
