      Alexander Nevsky Cathedral - Cathedral Patriarchal Cathedral of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. It is located in the eponymous square.

      Majestic cathedral was built in the early twentieth century by the architect Pomerantseva in honor of Russian soldiers who died during the liberation of Bulgaria from Turkish rule during the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-78.

      The cathedral is made of granite and white stone and decorated cornices, friezes and columns. 12 bells from the bell tower were cast in Moscow.

      The interior of the church was used Italian marble, Brazilian onyx and alabaster African. Frescoes and carvings made of 32 Russian and 13 Bulgarian artists. Central altar dedicated to St. Alexander Nevsky, the south - St. Boris, who brought Christianity Bulgaria, North - St. Cyril and Methodius.

      In 1964, the underground crypt of Alexander Nevski Cathedral opened the Museum of icons, which exhibited more than 300 icons and frescos from all over the country's period of 9-19 centuries.
